Great Gonerby in Lincolnshire is a medium size village of some 2200 plus inhabitants. The village is situated two miles north of Grantham. The village sits on top of a hill which rises to 113m(360ft) above sea level. The main road runs through the village in a roughly north to south direction and was originally the Great North Road which eventually became the A1, the A1 now bypassing the village.
Although spelt GONERBY it is still pronounced GUNNERBY by the locals after its original name form GUNFORDEBI quoted in the Doomsday Book.
The local scene is dominated by the stone church of St. Sebastians built in the 14th century with its magnificent tower and spire added in the 15th Century.
Other village facilities include a Methodist Chapel, a village primary school, a pre-school playgroup, a grocery store and a Post Office with community shop.
Communal facilities include The Recruiting Sergeant public house, a Social Club and the Memorial Hall, with a playing field with play area and floodlit Multi-Sport facility.
